Based on an analysis of data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report today, hiring of technology experts is at its best levels since last year, and the unemployment rate for IT workers dramatically decreased last month.

Jobs are available in technology

In June of last year, employer posting volumes for IT jobs were not this high, according to a CompTIA industry report. Tech-related unemployment fell by three-tenths of a percentage point from 2.8% in April to 2.5% in May, a significant decrease from the 4% national average.

In May, the US economy added more jobs than anticipated overall, indicating the strength of the labor market following the pandemic, even as the economy rebalances in response to the increasing use of artificial intelligence. According to the BLS, employers added 272,000 jobs, while the overall unemployment rate increased, breaking a 27-month trend of unemployment below 4%.

Technology companies added workers in May, albeit at a slower pace than in previous months, but overall, tech hiring intent is at its highest point since last year, according to CompTIA. With 2,181 new hires in the tech sector last month, the total number of employed people is now close to 5.6 million.

According to Tim Herbert, chief research officer at CompTIA, “the increase in tech job postings is an encouraging indicator more employers are coming off the sidelines.” “It might be an indication of the repressed need for the tech talent that businesses will require to back digital growth initiatives.”
