Challenges and Benefits of Online Education in today’s era

Due to COVID-19, the education industry affected, and the institutions struggled to find a way to keep the teaching process going. The concept of online education emerged as a godsend then. Since then, there has been a lot of investment in EdTech tools, mainly in the segment of online education.

Advantages of Online Education:

more flexibility, less cost, less need for physical infrastructure, easy access, and portability. But still, it has its disadvantages.

Challenges:

The most common challenges among people attending online classes are:

Lack of motivation:The new generation is all about technology and online platforms so online education was thought to be very interactive and a great tool of learning. But the results say otherwise. The students have lost their motivation with unlimited quizzes, texts, online MCQs, and assignments and do not feel like visiting the portal.

Students Point of view:

According to students, there is no personal connection between the instructor and the student, plus no physical interaction to maintain engagement during the class.  A laptop or computer, stable internet connection, electricity, and up-to-date software are huge demand in itself. In most developed countries, the infrastructure is available in public libraries but in developing countries, this kind of infrastructure is available to only a tiny percentage of the population and is very hard to maintain. Technical issues and digital knowledge Another major issue for the new generation with online learning is that efficient use of computers doesn’t always mean digital literacy.

Also, the lack of awareness in students to understand online communication ethics and recognize the responsibilities of using an online platform in the education department is a great challenge in learning. Technical issues are the biggest hurdle and cause regular disruptions in learning. Lack of real-human interaction Human beings are social animals.

The physical presence of a teacher in the class with students cannot replace by virtual interaction. The presence in physical classrooms ensures discipline in the class. Students interact more, and their attention is not diverted. Lack of technology for Students with special needs completely ignored in the evolution of education from physical to online. These students need an experience that is more personalized and hands-on. It still needs a full-time teacher to supervise and guide the students, even with the drastic evolution of technology.
