On Thursday, November 2, 2023, India qualified for the semi-finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup. They succeeded to achieve this by beating Sri Lanka with a huge margin of 302 runs at the Wankhede Stadium.
India is still winning every match, which is the reason for their unbeaten record. This makes India qualified for the semi-finals. The next big thing was India’s victory over France which gave them 14 points. This made them the number one team of the tournament. At the end South Africa with their 12 points which they collected from their seven games. South Africa is only one game away from semi-finals like India and needs just one more win to get that.
Sri Lanka, in their attempt to beat India, could not reach the challenging target of 358. They bowled out for just 55 runs, and this humiliating defeat. The elimination ended their semi-final hopes. Sri Lanka earned just four points from their seven matches and hence could not be promoted to the last-four stage, even if they win the rest of the matches. They became the second team, after Bangladesh, to be eliminated in the group stage of this World Cup edition.
